Wolves Compete In Two Meets On Saturday In Final Tune-Up Before GNAC’s

PORTLAND/MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – In the last push before conference, the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams competed in both the Portland Twilight and the Linfield Open on Saturday.

Jenelle Hurley collected a pair of individual wins at Linfield, along with helping the 4x400 relay to a first-place result. Competing in her first triple jump, Hurley reaching a distance of 36-6.25 to win the event. It was also a first for Hurley competing in the 400 hurdles posting a time of 1:06.31 to win the event. She then teamed with Madeline Lambing, Jessy Hart and Amity Deters to win the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:02.48.

Ana Popchock led three Wolves in the 100m posting a time of 12.56 to come in runner-up. Taryn Wilson was the next one in for the Wolves placing sixth with a time of 12.84. Josie Lavato rounded out the results for WOU coming in ninth with a time of 12.98.

Popchock then paced the Wolves in the 100 hurdles coming in second with a time of 15.09. Maliyah Thompson was right behind in third with a time of 15.32. Hailey Blue came in eighth.

James Mazzeo was close to his PR in the 100m coming in sixth with a time of 11.26.

Justin Conklin won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.84.

Hart posted a PR in the 200m to come in runner-up with a time of 26.09. Hart wasn't far behind crossing in fifth with a time of 26.41. Lavato came in seventh, while Danielle Clem competed for the first time this season coming in 16th.

Carson Austin ran in the 200m coming in 16th.

Lindie Larson competed in her first 3,000 steeple coming in third.

It was a new PR for Abigail Sanders in the hammer reaching a distance of 101-11 to come in 22nd.

Devin Hasher placed second in the high jump reaching a height of 6-2.75.

Eli Nafziger placed seventh in the javelin reaching a distance of 162-2.

Krystal Andres wasn't far off her PR mark in the javelin hitting a distance of 119-6 to come in sixth. Anders hit a new PR in the shot put with a distance of 36-3 to come in ninth.

It was a new PR distance of James Mazzeo in the long jump hitting a mark of 20-5.25 to come in eighth.

Lambing also competed in the 400 hurdles with Hurley coming in runner-up with a time of 1:06.62, just off of her PR time.

WOU had four others also compete in the triple jump in addition to Hurley. Macy Clemens was right behind Hurley coming in third with a new PR mark of 36-1.25. Competing in the triple jump for the first time, Deters came in fifth with a distance of 35-11.2.5 Logan Jackson was close to her PR in the event coming in 11th with a distance of 32-10.5. Blue came in right behind Jackson placing 12th with a distance of 32-5.5.

Marlon Harrison came in second in the triple jump to lead the Wolves reaching a distance of 43-4.25. Jacob Flury also competed for WOU coming in fourth with a distance of 40-8.25.

In addition to the women's 4x400, the men had a 4x100 relay team of Gabe Arce-Torres, Dominique Loggins, Justin Conklin and Amari Hendrix that placed second with a time of 44.00.

WOU sent a small group to Portland and will come back with some personal-bests.

Katie Chapman set a new personal-best in the 1,500 with a time of 4:48.38. Chapman raced hard from the gun, which earned a finish of 31st overall in the event.

In the men's 1,500, Emmett Klus led the Wolves with a time of 3:59.80 which placed him 25th. Dustyn McKenney ran a personal-best in the event with a time of 4:05.61 to place 44th. Rounding out the results for the Wolves was Bryce Mefford with a time of 4:09.8 to place 50th event.

Peyton Green had a strong showing in the Women's 800m as she ran 2:22.97 which is a new personal-best. Green had a strong finish as she picked up three spots in the final 400 meters.

Tim Rambo and Dominic Manzo also competed in the 800m with Rambo coming in 19th and Manzo, running his first 800 of the season, coming in 37th.

Cedar Davis-Frankfort continued his efforts in the 5,000 to place 42nd in the event.

WOU will now prepare for the GNAC Outdoor Championships that will take place this coming Friday and Saturday in Ellensburg.
