MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon volleyball team took a trip west to Hawaii to open the season at the Magic Island Classic by Ala Moana Hotel by Mantra. The Wolves open play Frida against San Francisco State and Hawaii Pacific before taking on Stanislaus State and Hawaii Hilo on Saturday.

WOU is coming off a 4-21 season overall (2-16 in GNAC play) and will look to first-year coach
Kaiao Nahale-a to get the program going back in the right direction. He comes to Western Oregon after serving as the interim head coach at Lewis & Clark and spending five years as an assistant coach at Concordia.
The Wolves return several players from a season ago, including their top nine players when it comes to kill totals - led by
Isabel Hurliman (2.91 kills per set),
Bailee Hartsook (2.68), Madison Horback (1.97) and
Lauren Smith (1.77). One of the team's captains for this year,
Laney O'Neil, returns at setter after being second on the team at 4.66 assists per set. The team's other captain,
Sophie Matlock, returns after leading the team at 4.20 digs per set.
