WOLVES WOMEN'S SOCCER HOSTS SIMON FRASER, DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMP WESTERN WASHINGTON
The Western Oregon women's soccer team looks to bounce back this week as the Wolves continue GNAC play at home against Simon Fraser 3 p.m. Thursday and defending national champion Western Washington 2 p.m. Saturday at WOU Turf Field.
WOU is coming off the opening week of GNAC play last week with a 2-0 win at Saint Martin's on Thursday before falling at home to Northwest Nazarene 3-2 on Saturday.Â
Chloe Smith leads the Wolves in goals this season with five - tops in the GNAC and tied for 20th in the nation.
Raeanne Jones is second on the team in goals with two while
Lilly Nowatzke and
Emma Higashi have a goal apiece.
Sophia Pierce ranks fourth in the conference in goals against (0.727 per game).
Last season the Wolves went 0-1-1 against Simon Fraser, playing to a draw at home and falling 2-0 on the road, and is 8-13-3 against the Red Leafs overall since 2001. Against Western Washington last season, WOU handed the Vikings one of their two losses on the season - beating WWU 2-1 in Bellingham (the Wolves lost 3-2 at home against the Vikings earlier in the season).
WOU MEN'S SOCCER OPENS GNAC PLAY AT HOME THURSDAY AGAINST SIMON FRASER, ON THE ROAD AT MSUB ON SATURDAY
The WOU men's soccer team opens GNAC play this week as the Wolves host Simon Fraser noon Thursday before playing at Montana State Billings 6 p.m. (PT) Saturday.
The Wolves last played Sept. 16 at home against Colorado Christian, beating the Cougars 2-0 in their home opener for their third win of the season - already passing the two-win total in their inaugural season.
Gabriel Silva (two goals, two assists) and
Alejandro Velasco (three goals) lead the team in scoring with six points.
Moises Cisneros lead the team with three assists.
Juan Suarez has played all 450 minutes at keeper and owns a 1.60 goals against average with 33 saves and an 80.5 save percentage.
In WOU's first season as a program, the Wolves lost both games to Simon Fraser (2-0 at home, 1-0 on the road) and 0-1-1 against Montana State Billings (tied 2-2 in Monmouth, lost 5-1 in Billings).
WOU FOOTBALL TRAVELS TO TAKE ON WEST TEXAS A&M
The Western Oregon football team hits the road this week as the Wolves (1-3 overall, 0-2 Lone Star Conference) travel to take on West Texas A&M (2-2, 1-1) 5 p.m. (PT) Saturday in Canyon, Texas.
WOU is coming off a 17-7 loss at home against Central Washington in a game where WOU held the Wildcats to 271 yards of offense.
Isaiah Abraham paced the Wolves with 10 tackles to go along with a sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. The senior linebacker leads the LSC in solo tackles per game (4.8).
The Wolves are 2-0 all-time against the Buffs - both games played in Monmouth in the last two years, a 41-38 win in 2021 and a 27-13 victory last season.
WOLVES VOLLEYBALL HITS THE ROAD TO CONTINUE GNAC ACTION TO FACE NO. 18 CENTRAL WASHINGTON, NW NAZARENE
The WOU volleyball team travels to take on 18th-ranked Central Washington on Thursday before facing Northwest Nazarene on the road on Saturday.
The Wolves sit at 7-4 overall and 1-2 in GNAC play after dropping its lone match last week in four sets at home Saturday against Saint Martin's.
Bailee Hartsook led the team with 12 kills while
Sarah Strus and
Madison Hornback each had 11 kills. Hornback ranks third in the GNAC in points per set at 3.85 while
Chloe Asciutto is second in the conference in aces per set at 0.56.
The Wolves dropped both matches against CWU last season and is looking for its first win against the Wildcats since 2016 and first win in Ellensburg since 2011. WOU against NNU dropped both matches last year in four sets and is looking for its first win in Nampa, Idaho, since 2018.
