WOLVES FOOTBALL TAKES ON LINCOLN IN HOME OPENER SATURDAY
The Western Oregon football team takes on Lincoln in the Wolves' home opener 1:05 p.m. Saturday at McArthur Field.

The Wolves are coming off a 45-7 loss to defending FCS national champion and top-ranked South Dakota State on the road in Brookings while Lincoln lost to Adams State 35-16 in Alamosa, Colorado, to move to 0-2 on the season (the Oaklanders also lost to College of Idaho Aug. 26, 37-7).

It's the third year in a row the Wolves are hosting Lincoln with WOU winning 55-16 in 2021 and 42-10 last season. In last season's game, WOU racked up 452 yards of offense while allowing 135. Gannon Winker went 20-for-34 through the air for 249 yards and a score with London Smalley leading the team with five catches for 52 yards. Defensively, the now graduated Jaylin Parnell led WOU with six tackles and two sacks while returning senior Isaiah Abraham had five tackles.

WOU will also be honoring its 2023 WOU Football Hall of Fame class. Read more about the class here.

WOU CROSS COUNTRY HOSTS ASH CREEK COLLEGIATE
The Western Oregon cross country team hosts the Ash Creek Collegiate on Friday evening with the women's race starting at 5:15 p.m. and the men's race beginning at 5:45 p.m.

The Wolves will have 16 female competitors running the 5K race while the men have 17 student-athletes running the 6K event. Many of the returners will be making their season debut as the Wolves took many newcomers to the Linfield Open last week.

WOU VOLLEYBALL LOOKS TO CONTINUE BEST START TO SEASON IN 20-PLUS YEARS AT MOUNTAIN LION CLASSIC
The WOU volleyball team is off to its best start since 1999 and looks to continue the streak as the Wolves begin play at the Mountain Lion Classic starting noon Thursday (PT) against host UC Colorado Springs.

WOU, which was named the GNAC Team of the Week, is 4-0 for the first time since 1999 and looks to go 5-0 for the first time since 1998 (that team started the season 9-0). The best start in Wolves history is 14-0 in 1996. The Wolves reached the mark after winning all but one set on the weekend at the Stanislaus State Tournament - beating host SSU, Chico State, Academy of Art and Fresno Pacific. Madison Hornback earned MVP honors at the tournament (helping her earn GNAC Offensive Player of the Week) while Bailee Hartsook was also named to the all-tournament team.

After taking on UCCS, the Wolves face Bemidji State and Nebraska Kearney on Friday and close out against Western Colorado on Saturday morning.

WOU WOMEN'S SOCCER GOES TO COLORADO, CALIFORNIA THIS WEEK
The Wolves women's soccer team hits the road for the first time this season as WOU travels to take on UCCS in Colorado Springs on Thursday and Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday.

WOU is 2-0 to start the season after winning a pair of home games last week, beating Stanislaus State 1-0 on Friday and Colorado Christian 2-1 on Sunday. In the win over Stan State, freshman Emma Higashi scored her first career goal (assisted by Gabby Warta) while Sophia Pierce in her first game at WOU held on for the shutout - picking up five saves. In the win over CCU, WOU got two goals within minutes of each other from Chloe Smith - helping her earn GNAC Offensive Player of the Week and helping the Wolves start 2-0.

WOLVES MEN'S SOCCER AT 2-0 HITS THE ROAD TO CALIFORNIA
The second-year WOU men's soccer program travels to California this week to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday and Cal State San Marcos on Saturday.

WOU has already equaled its first-year win total thanks to a 2-1 win over Hawaii Hilo on Thursday and a 3-1 victory over Hawaii Pacific on Sunday - both games in Waipahu, Hawaii. In the first game, WOU got a goal in the 89th minute by Alejandro Velasco (assisted by Marco Millan) to steal the victory against the Vulcans (Jacob Garcia also scored on a PK). In the win over Hawaii Pacific, WOU got goals from Velasco, Ocampo and Gabriel Silva and assists from Silva and Moises Cisneros (two).
