1985 "Airwolf" team, 11 individuals to be inducted into WOU Football Hall of Fame this weekend

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The 1985 Western Oregon football team along with 11 individuals will be inducted into the WOU Football Hall of Fame this week - culminating in being honored during the Wolves' home opener 1:05 p.m. Saturday.

Joining the 1985 team that went 8-2 under coach Duke Iverson, was known as the "Airwolves" for their prolific offense, won the conference title and made it to the NAIA national quarterfinals entering the hall of fame is:

As for the 1985 team, four members of that team are being honored as individuals into the hall of fame. Two of those members were NAIA All-Americans that season - center Doug Park (second team) and quarterback Anthony Burris (honorable mention). The team qualified for the NAIA national playoffs and took on Mesa (now Colorado Mesa) in Grand Junction and it was an offensive shootout with both teams racking up more than 450 yards of offense. WOU trailed 39-32 (the Wolves led 22-10 in the first quarter) with under a minute left and were at the Mavericks' 9-yard line - but were stopped on fourth-and-1 to fall just short of advancing to the national semifinals.
