WOU track & field heads back to Seattle for the UW Invite

THE WOLVES HEADING INTO THE WEEK ...

WOU returns to Seattle for the second time this season after competing at the UW Preview on Jan. 13. The Wolves competed at a pair events last week with the multis competing in Idaho and a dozen runners competing in Portland.

In the men's heptathlon, Gabriel Burchfield just missed passing his No. 3 mark in WOU history (4,399) when he took fifth with 4,386 points. Freshman Caleb Ness in his collegiate heptathlon debut took eighth with 4,133 points – good for sixth place in WOU history.
 
In the women's pentathlon, WOU's Macy Clemens took 10th with 2,963 points – improving her No. 8 mark in WOU history (was 2,922) while teammate Amity Deters was just behind her in 11th with 2,905 points (she already ranks sixth in WOU history with 3,055 points).

In Portland, Talon Aguilar took sixth in the 1,000 with a time of 2 minutes, 52.95 seconds. In the mile, Logan Parker led five WOU runners with a time of 4:32.29. On the women's side, Abbigale Elliott took fourth in the 1,000 (3:24.18) while freshman Amelia Merritt paced six Wolves in the mile race with a time of 5:15.22 (less than five seconds from reaching the WOU top 10 in the event).

WOLVES NOTES FOR 2024 SEASON
WOLVES' CONKLIN NAMED GNAC FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (Dec. 11) | RELEASE
Western Oregon's Justin Conklin was named the GNAC Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 11 after winning the high jump at the Spokane Invitational with the best indoor mark for the Wolves since 2013. Conklin's height of 6 feet, 6.75 inches that won Saturday's event is tied for eighth-best in WOU history and the best mark since Matson Hardie's height of 6-7 set in 2013. The WOU high jump record is 7-0.5 set in 1998 by A.J. Acker.
