KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. --- The Western Oregon baseball team split a four-game series at Oregon Tech over the weekend, dropping two games Saturday before taking both of Sunday's games.
On Sunday, the Wolves (5-7) bats were hot as they combined for 25 runs and 30 hits in 14-2 and 11-9 victories over the Owls (7-9).
In Sunday's first game, the Wolves scored multiple runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth inning to come away with the win.
Curran Mitzel was a double short of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with a home run, two triples, six RBI and two runs.
John Oleson went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs while
Collin Irwin,
Owen Bischoff and
Tyler Mohler had two hits apiece as well.
Arturo Alvarez picked up the win, going the distance and giving up one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
In game two Sunday, The Wolves led 9-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh before Oregon Tech scored three in the inning plus another in the eighth to make it 9-8 heading to the final inning. WOU got a pair of needed insurance runs in the inning on a Mitzel RBI single and Stultz being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Spencer Six went 3-for-4 with three RBI,
Emiliano Alarcon went 3-for-6 with a triple and two RBI while Mitzel, Mohler and
Owen Bischoff each added two hits apiece.
Jacob Memmott picked up the win, going 6.1 innings and giving up six earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Devin Bell picked up the save - striking out three in an inning of work.
The Wolves open GNAC play at nationally ranked Northwest Nazarene on Friday.
