NAMPA, Idaho --- The Western Oregon baseball team lost 2-0 and 7-3 to 10th-ranked Northwest Nazarene to open GNAC play Friday at Vail Field.
The Wolves (5-9 overall, 0-2 GNAC) in game one fell behind the Nighthawks (12-2-1, 2-0) 2-0 in the second inning and never could find an answer at the plate despite a strong outing from
Dylan Chalmers. The junior went seven innings and gave up two runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks as he didn't allow a hit after the second inning.
Ayden Holker pitched a perfect eighth for WOU as well.
At the plate,
Owen Bischoff went 2-for-3 to lead WOU as the Wolves finished with just four hits in the contest.
In game two, WOU used a
Justyn Herzog RBI single and a two-run single by
Curran Mitzel to take a 3-0 lead in the third inning. But NNU scored one in the fourth and six in the fifth to come from behind for the win.
Bryce Bond got the loss, going 0.1 innings and giving up three runs.
Owen Murdock got the start, going four innings and giving up three runs on six hits with a strikeout and a walk.Â
At the plate, the Wolves had five players with a hit apiece.
The two teams close out the four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon (PT).
