MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon baseball team lost a tough game one 5-4 before bouncing back to win game two 13-3 against Montana State Billings on Friday at WOU Baseball Field.
In game two, the Wolves (13-14 overall, 7-7 GNAC) used a five-run first and a five-run fourth to pull away from the Yellowjackets (11-21, 5-9).
Randy Stultz led the way, going 2-for-2 with a home run, double, four RBI and two runs while
Owen Bischoff was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run,
AJ Cortese went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs and a double,
Justyn Herzog was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and was hit by a pitch twice and
Emiliano Alarcon went 2-for-4 with a double.
Owen Murdock went the distance for WOU in the seven-inning contest, giving up three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
In game one, the Wolves used a four-run sixth inning - highlighted by a two-run, go-ahead single by
Zach Valdez - to take a 4-2 lead. However, MSUB evened the score in the next half inning before hitting a solo home run in the ninth to come away with the win.
Cortese went 4-for-5 with a double and a run, Valdez finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run and
Owen Bischoff was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.
Devin Bell picked up the loss, going an inning and giving up a run on a hit with two strikeouts.
Dylan Chalmers got the start, giving up four runs on six hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Bryce Bond pitched two solid innings of relief - giving up no runs on one hit with two strikeouts.
The Wolves and Yellowjackets close out the series with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
