It was an exciting Saturday for the Western Oregon Track and Field programs as three school records - which included a conference record - were broken while seven other WOU top-10 marks were recorded at the Riverfront Invitational & Multis in Spokane, Washington, and at the George Fox Indoor in Newberg, Oregon.
Mark Warren highlighted the day by breaking not only the WOU record, but also the GNAC record in the weight throw with a distance of 62 feet, 3.75 inches (18.99 meters) to win the event at the George Fox Indoor. The distance moves him to No. 13 on the NCAA Division II performance list for this season. Warren passed
Anthony Marin's 2007 distance of 61-9 to claim the WOU record and Aidan Cain's (Central Washington) 2020 distance of 61-10.25 to break the GNAC record.
At the Riverfront Invite in Spokane,
Brennen Murphy broke the school record in the 400 with a time of 48.05 - .35 seconds faster than the old record set by AJ Holmberg in 2017 (48.40). The time was good enough to win the event. Holmberg is now third, however, as WOU's
Jack Burgett also beat his time Saturday at 48.34 to take second.
Â
The duo wasn't done as In the 200 – Burgett moved from sixth to tied for second on the WOU all-time list with a time of 21.77 seconds to finish fourth. Murphy finished just behind Burgett at 21.79 - catapulting him to No. 4 on the WOU all-time list.
Nerissa Thompson bettered her school record in the 60 at 7.50 – taking fourth in the event and moving her to No. 18 on the D-II performance list this season. She also tied her school record of 7.52 in the prelims. Thompson also moved from fifth to third on the WOU top-10 list in the 200 with a time of 25.34.
Jazmine Dotson in the 60 moved to No. six on the all-time list at 7.84 seconds to finish third at the George Fox Indoor.
