EUGENE, Ore. --- The Western Oregon track and field program saw a school record fall while other top-10 school marks were hit at the Oregon Preview at Hayward Field on Friday and Saturday as well as at the Klein/Nwaba Combined Events on Thursday and Friday.
Kyla Potratz broke the Wolves' women's 5,000 record on Friday with with a time of 17 minutes, 4.29 seconds – besting
Caitlin Heldt's time from two years ago by 1.76 seconds. The sophomore closed out the race with a 1:16.47 final 400 meters to finish third.
Maslin Sigler in the 5,000 also entered the WOU all-time top 10 with a time of 17:56.98.
Mark Warren improved his No. 4 WOU all-time mark in the hammer with a distance of 196 feet, 6 inches (59.9 meters) to take third Friday – three inches behind the No. 3 spot. It's the best distance in the event by a WOU athlete since Pro Escobedo set the school record in 2003 of 206-4.
Nerissa Thompson took fifth in the 100 with a time of 12.22 – tied for ninth on the WOU all-time list.
Keeton Sanchez just missed a WOU all-time top 10 mark in the 800 as he took sixth wit ha time of 1:51.62 (0.23 off the No. 10 spot).
The Wolves also sent a trio of athletes to the Klein/Nwaba Combined Events in Santa Barbara, California, on Thursday and Friday and
Macy Clemens took second with 4,639 points – a PR and moving her from No. 10 to No. 5 on the WOU all-time list.
Amariyah Clay finished fifth and only 20 points behind Clemens with 4,619 points – putting her sixth on the WOU all-time list.
Amity Deters finished seventh with 4,283 points.
WOU returns to action Monday at the Pacific Multi before traveling to compete at the Willamette Invitational the following Saturday.
