Wolves Win Fourth Straight

Western Oregon rolls past West Texas A&M, 38-10 to improve to 6-4 on the season.

Box Score MONMOUTH, Ore.--Western Oregon continued their red hot roll with their fourth consecutive win, taking down West Texas A&M, 38-10 on Saturday afternoon at McArthur Field.

The Wolves, one of the hottest teams in the Lone Star Conference, improved to 6-4 on the season and to 4-4 in league play. Their four straight victories were all Lone Star games. They moved up into a tie for fifth place in the conference, with the possibility to move up to fourth depending on results tonight. They began the year 0-4 in conference play.

"Defensively, it was our best game of the season," said WOU head coach Arne Ferguson. "We were great on third down, hurried the quarterback and held them to less than 100 yards rushing."

Western Oregon built a big lead early in their final home game of the season. WOU led 14-3 at the end of the first quarter, they were up 21-3 at the half, and took a 28-3 margin early in the third period.

Jordan McCarty got the Wolves on the board just a little over five minutes into the game with a three-yard run to cap a 11-play, 75-yard drive. The Wolves got the ball right back on the kick-off when West Texas A&M fumbled. On the second play after that miscue, McCarty found Jaydan Burns on a 10-yard scoring strike to make it 14-0 just six minutes in.

The Buffs got a field goal before the quarter ended, but the Wolves added another touchdown just before the half on a McCarty to E`lijiah McChristian for 44 yards to make it 28-3 heading into the fourth quarter. In the final period, Kadyn Butcher added a 36-yard field goal, and McCarty had a seven-yard TD run to help clinch the contest.

WOU quarterback McCarty was 13-of-22 for 199 yards and two touchdowns (no interceptions). He found seven different receivers. On the ground, Jermaine Land rushed for 73 yards on 10 carries. The Wolves had 352 yards of total offense, with 153 on the ground and 199 through the air.

The Wolves were 5-for-5 in the red zone.

"I thought special teams had their best game of the season as well," Ferguson added. "The kick-off team caused a fumble and Kyle Babcock averaged 42 yards a punt with zero return yards.

"It was a complete game on Senior Day against a very talented and well coached West Texas A&M team."

WOU will wrap up the regular season next Saturday at Sul Ross in Alpine, Texas. Start time is 2 pm.
