T&F: WOU wins 10 events at mini meet

SALEM, Ore.
- The Western Oregon University track & field team won 10 events at the Willamette-WOU Mini Meet Thursday (Apr. 15). The women took three events and the men won seven.

The women earned all three of their wins in the sprints. Mary Bailey took the 100m dash with a time of 13.06, while Meryl Butcher captured the 400m with a season-best time of 59.91. Annie Hayward then won the 800m race with a career-best mark of 2:27.01.

The men won four races and earned their other three victories in the field events. Kody Reavis won the javelin toss by 16 feet and four inches with a throw of 172-11 (52.72m). Robert Wegner earned first place in the long jump with a leap of 20-6.5 (6.26m) and Jayce Giddens in the pole vault after clearing 14-7.25 (4.45m). In the running events, Alex Bourne won the 100m dash (11.11), while Dan Sprinkle captured the 800m (1:58.56) and Ryan Chapman the 1500m (4:16.94). The men's 4x400m relay team also won the event with a time of 3:48.44.

Members of the Western Oregon team will now travel to California to compete is three different meets; the Mt. SAC Relays, the Long Beach State Invite and the Bryan Clay Invitational.
