Schumaker grabs NCAA provisional standard in opening meet

SALEM, Ore. – Two-time NCAA All-American Amanda Schumaker grabbed a provisional qualifying mark in the javelin at the Willamette Opener on Saturday, Mar. 3. The junior from Gladstone, Ore., posted a throw of 145-11 (44.49m) on her fourth attempt to win the meet by over 23 feet.

Janelle Everetts tuned up for the NCAA Indoor Championships by winning the 1500m run with a time of 4:49.18. Her sister Megan placed second in the race with a time of 4:56.56. Rachel Shelley took third with a time of 5:01.87.

Janna Vander Meulen won the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.90. That mark was .73 faster than any competitor in the race.

The Wolves swept the men's hurdles. Brett Campbell won the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.37 and Kody Rhodes took the title in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.05. Rhodes also took second place in the 110m hurdles, while Kevin McCurdy and Campbell finished second and third, respectively, in the 400m hurdles.

Eric Gaines won the men's high jump by clearing 6-0 (1.83m). Elrycc Berkman tied Gaines at 6-0 (1.83m) but finished second thanks to needing the additional number of jumps to clear the mark. Gabe Mendenhall placed third after clearing 5-10 (1.78m).

Josh Moore won the men's 200m dash with a time of 22.56.

The Wolves next meet will be Saturday, Mar. 10 at the Mt. Hood Open.
