FINAL RESULTSNAMPA, Idaho – On the last day of competition at the 2015 Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships, Western Oregon University exploded on the track early with the mile and continued the momentum through the rest of the meet.
Stephanie Stuckey led wire to wire, gapping her competition to win her heat of the mile in a time of 5:03.74, which placed her fifth overall in the mile and second in WOU history. Following behind Stuckey was
Rachel Crawford, who placed third in her heat with a time of 5:22.73.
Brady Beagley excited the crowd and Wolves' fans everywhere with his mile run. With 200 meters to go, Beagley made a big move to win the mile, as his time of 4:10.31 is a new conference record that bested the old conference record 4:11.05 set by Robert Peterson of Montana State Billings. It also places him fourth
in WOU history.
In the 60 meter hurdles,
Rochelle Pappel placed fifth overall in a time of 9.03, while
Kaleb Dobson placed seventh overall with a time of 8.52.
AJ Holmberg had a stellar meet placing eighth overall and ninth in WOU history with a new personal record of 49.90, as he broke the 50-second mark for the first time ever.
In the 60m dash,
Cody Warner placed third overall in a time of 6.97 seconds. Right on Warner's heel was two-sport athlete
Paul Revis who placed eighth overall with a time of 7.16 seconds.
In the premiere event of the day, the 800 meter run, the Wolves placed third, fifth and seventh, respectively.
Sam Naffziger lead the 800m with a time of 1:53.21, while
Josh Hanna followed closely behind with a time of 1:54.30 and Badane Sultessa recovered after being shoved off the track to place seventh overall in a time of 1:56.18. Naffziger's time moves him to seventh in WOU history, while Sultessa's and Hanna's prelim marks move them to fifth and sixth, respectively, in WOU history.
In his second race of the day, Warner shattered the WOU school record and GNAC conference record with a time of 21.60 seconds, which places him 10
th on the national provisional list.
In the 3000 meter run, Beagley and
David Ribich battled until the very end with Beagley taking sixth with a time of 8:38.47 and Ribich taking seventh with a time of 8:38.61.
The momentum that started early continued till the end of the meet.
The women's 4x4 comprised of
Suzanne Van De Grift,
Megan Rose,
Bailey Beeson and
Audrey Hellesto gapped their competition and won their heat in 3:57.07 placing them fourth overall. In the process, they also broke the WOU school record.
The men's 4x4 comprised of
Josh Cole,
Bryce Leedham,
AJ Holmberg and
Aaron Whitaker ran 3:20.46 to place third overall in the meet.
When asked about this weekend's meet, Head Coach
Mike Johnson said, "This meet was a great growth meet and a very competitive meet. There were very good marks from Emmi (Collier), Brady (Beagley) and Cody (Warner) that showed our significant, purposeful and record setting performances."
On the field side of things,
Kenny Klippel PR-ed in the weight throw with a mark of 13.40m (43-11).
Emmi Collier led the women's thrower today in the shot and brought home second place finish.
In triple jump, three-of-four jumpers made finals with
Kylie Reinholdt and
Rebecca Laible earning seventh and eighth places.
Western Oregon has one more chance to qualify student-athletes for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the SPU Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday, February 28, in Seattle, Washington.
