FINAL RESULTSSEATTLE, Wash. – Western Oregon University's indoor track & field squads set a pair of school records at the SPU Last Chance Qualifier hosted by Seattle Pacific University Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Center on the campus of the University of Washington.
Despite no teams titles being handed out at the meet, the Wolves earned 67 points on the men's side to finish ahead of Simon Fraser (21 points), George Fox (15), Academy of Art (14), and Washington (2). On the women's side, Western Oregon scored a combined 26 points finishing ahead of Simon Fraser (24), George Fox (15), Puget Sound (10), Western Washington (10), Seattle Pacific (10), Cal State L.A. (8), Cal State Stanislaus (8), Washington (8), and Central Washington (5).
Individually, junior
Stephanie Stuckey took home the title in the one mile run in a time of 4:56.18 finishing 0.36 seconds ahead of unattached runner Bronwyn Crossman and over five seconds in front of Washington's Josephine Bosserman.
Along with Stuckey, junior
Rochelle Pappel captured the individual title in the 60 meter hurdles in a school record time of 8.91 seconds finishing 0.04 seconds ahead of George Fox's Rachael Kraske and breaking her own week-old record in the process becoming the first Wolf ever to run under nine seconds.
On the men's side, freshman
Kaleb Dobson took home the individual crown in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.21 seconds finishing ahead of teammate Rihei Grothman who finished with a time of 7.44 seconds.
Freshman Badane Sultessa captured the title in the 800 meter run thanks to a time of 1:51.22, while four other Wolves – junior
Sam Naffziger, junior
Josh Hanna, sophomore
Josh Dempsey, and sophomore
Aaron Whitaker – also finished in the Top 10 individually.
In the one mile run, senior
Brady Beagley posted a winning time of 4:08.53 to set a new school record and outlasted a field that consisted of four runners from Simon Fraser and teammate
David Ribich by nearly three seconds.
Freshman
Kegan Allen would bring home the Wolves' final individual title in the weight throw with a toss of 14.00 meters (45-11.25) winning the event by more than four meters over teammate
Frank Calzada.
Western Oregon will now turns its attention to the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in two weeks beginning on March 13 in Birmingham, Alabama. The Wolves will also focus on the beginning of the outdoor season that begins Saturday, March 7, at the Willamette Opener at McCullough Stadium in nearby Salem, Oregon.
