FINAL RESULTSSALEM, Ore. – Western Oregon University's track and field teams had a spectacular day at the Willamette Invitational, as four different Wolves – junior
Rochelle Pappel, junior
Badane Sultessa, freshman
Kaleb Dobson, and freshman
Cody Warner – each took home individual title with Warner sweeping the 100 and 200 meter races Saturday at McCullough Stadium.
On the women's side, Pappel would out run five Alaska Anchorage runners en route to capturing the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14.51 seconds beating 2014 GNAC runner-up Rosie Smith of Alaska Anchorage by a mere 0.03 seconds.
Other highlights for the WOU women came from sophomore
Laura Patrick in the 100 meter dash, as she finished third overall in the personal record time of 12.56 seconds. The Wolves' 4x100 meter relay team that consisted of Patrick, Pappel, freshman
Suzanne Van De Grift, and senior
Audrey Hellesto would finish second in a time of 49.74 seconds, which was a mere 0.71 seconds behind winner Alaska Anchorage.
In the field events, junior
Emmi Collier would finish second in the shot put with a mark of 13.13 meters (43-1) to go along with a third place showing by freshman
Amanda Short in the javelin with a toss of 42.45 meters (139-3).
On the men's side, Warner would sweep the 100 and 200 meter races for the second time this season at McCullough Stadium winning in times of 10.76 and 21.40 seconds, respectively, setting a personal record in the 200 meter dash and increasing his outdoor titles to seven so far this year that includes back-to-back sweeps in the 100 and 200 over the past two weekends.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Dobson would capture his first collegiate individual title winning in a time of 15.22 seconds outlasting Concordia-Portland's Patrick Contino by a mere 0.02 seconds.
Coming off an All-American performance in the 800 meter run during the indoor season, Sultessa continued into the outdoor season just as successful as he was during the indoor season by winning the race in a time of 1:52.65 as he posted the eighth fastest time in program history to capture the first outdoor title of his young Wolves' career.
Other highlights for the men's squad came from junior
Zach Holloway with a second place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:21.91, while freshman
Peter Zalk increased her personal best in the pole vault by 0.18 meters en route to finishing third overall clearing the bar at 4.23 meters (13-10.50).
Western Oregon will return to action next weekend – April 3 & 4 – at four different meets up and down the West Coast, as the Wolves will send student-athletes to the Stanford Invite in Palo Alto, California, SF State Distance Carnival in San Francisco, California, Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational in McMinnville, and Spring Break Open in Portland.
