PORTLAND, Ore. – With a successful weekend all around for Western Oregon University's Athletic Teams, three student-athletes in the sports of baseball, softball, and men's track & field were honored Monday by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) office as Athlete of the Week in their respective sport.

After helping lead Western Oregon's baseball team earn three-of-four victories over preseason favorite Central Washington, senior Garret Harpole was named Player of the Week. Harpole drove in eight runs, including seven on Sunday, and went a combined 7-of-14 (.500) at the plate on the weekend with two doubles and a triple. In Sunday's doubleheader alone, the senior was 5-of-7 offensively, scoring four runs and driving in seven.

"Garret had a plan and stuck with it through the weekend," said Head Baseball Coach Kellen Walker. "He competed well against good Central Washington arms and also made some key plays for us at third base."

In helping the Wolves begin defense of their regular season and tournament titles, senior Amanda Evola was honored as Player of the Week for the sport of softball. Evola had nine hits in 15 at bats, including two doubles and two home runs to lead the Wolves to a four-game sweep against Northwest Nazarene University during which Western Oregon outscored the Crusaders, 31-8. She also drove in six runs, while raising her career batting average to .399 that currently ranks sixth in GNAC history. Only four players in conference history have finished their careers with a .400-or-better batting average. She currently also ranks sixth in GNAC history in career hits with 234 and fourth in RBI with 152.

"Amanda is not only a tremendous player, but she is an incredible person as well," said Head Softball Coach Lonny Sargent. "She works hard every day to make herself and her teammates better. She is so deserving of any and all honors that have and will continue to come her way."

Finally, freshman Cody Warner was named Male Track Athlete of the Week after taking home three individual titles at this past weekend's Willamette Opener. Warner had two of the best sprint times in GNAC history in sweeping the 100 and 200 meter events. His time of 10.68 seconds in the 100 equaled the sixth best in GNAC history, while his win in the 200 meters in the seventh best time in GNAC history, running 21.51 seconds. He also won the long jump with a leap of 21-0 ¾.

Another busy week is on tap for the Wolves beginning on Tuesday.

Softball will start things off with a non-conference double header against Northwest Christian University on Tuesday, March 10, beginning at 2 PM. The Wolves will then have a few days off before playing back-to-back double headers beginning Saturday, March 14, against Simon Fraser University at 1 PM before turn right around to face Western Washington University on Sunday, March 15, starting at noon. All three double headers will be contested at the WOU Softball Field in Monmouth.

Baseball will also be at home as well this week hosting Montana State Billings in a four-game series beginning on Friday, March 13, at 1 PM. Less than twenty-four hours later, the Wolves and Yellowjackets will close out their weekend series on Saturday, March 14, beginning at 12 PM. All four games will be played on the WOU Baseball Field.

Also on Saturday, Western Oregon's track & field teams will be in Gresham for the annual Saints Open hosted by Mt. Hood Community College.
