FINAL RESULTSMONMOUTH, Ore. – At the annual John Knight Twilight hosted by Western Oregon University, the Wolves' track and field teams brought home four individual titles Friday at McArthur Stadium that included the fourth sweep of the season in the 100 and 200 meter events by freshman
Cody Warner.
Along with Warner's double, junior
Badane Sultessa and freshman
Kaleb Dobson captured the 800 meter run and 110 meter hurdles, respectively, to cap off a great day for Western Oregon.
"This was a fun meet all-around for our team," said Head Coach
Mike Johnson. "There are a lot of positive things that we can take from today and build towards the GNAC Championships in a few weeks."
Warner would win the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.00 seconds before completing the sweep in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.09 seconds. The first-year Wolf would also help Western Oregon's 4x100 meter relay team to a third place finish, while also competing in the triple jump where he finished sixth with a leap of 12.60 meters (41-4.25).
Sultessa would capture his second outdoor 800 meter run after earning All-American honors during the indoor season. The junior would clock a winning time of 1:51.88 before helping lead Western Oregon's 4x400 meter relay team to a third place finish in the event.
Dobson, who was part of four events on Friday, took home the 110 meter hurdles crown in a time of 14.95 to set a new personal record before running as part of Western Oregon's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams. The first-year Wolf would also finish second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.63 seconds.
Along with the winning performances by Warner, Sultessa, and Dobson, junior
Justin Larson set a lifetime personal record in the javelin with a throw of 63.12 meters (207-1) that resulted in a third place finish overall and placed him third in the Wolves' all-time record book.
On the women's side, senior
Rebecca Laible would finish second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.27 meters (36-11.75) while junior
Emmi Collier posted a pair of Top 5 finishes in the shot put and hammer throw, respectively.
Collier finished second in the shot put with a distance of 13.57 meters (44-6.25), while placing fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.01 meters (154-3) to set a lifetime personal record. Also in the shot put, junior
Sam Moore won Flight #1 for the Wolves with a distance of 11.75 meters (38-6.75) to place 10th overall.
Rounding out the competitors for Western Oregon, freshman
Amanda Short finished third in the javelin with a throw of 40.20 meters (131-11).
Along with the performances by Western Oregon, seven meet records were set this year that included the Men's 400 meter run (Corban's Michael Trofimchik, 48.63), Men's 4x100 meter relay (Corban - 41.99), Men's Javelin (Cody Danielson, 73.22 meters - 240-3), Women's 800 Meter Run (Anna Connor, 2:08.67), Women's 100 Meter Hurdles (Oregon State's Kara Hallock, 14.33), Women's 4x100 Meter Relay (Portland State, 45.94), and the Women's Discus (Gabi Dixon, 53.80 meters - 176-6.50).
Western Oregon returns to action next week when the Wolves send competitors to Southern California for the Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, and Beach Invitational as well as competing at the Lewis & Clark Open in Portland.
