MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon track and field team will head to the Ford Sports Center – Jackson's Track in Nampa for the 2016 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. The two-day meet begins Friday, Feb. 19 at 9 a.m. Mountain Time.
The meet will feature 10 teams on both the men's and women's side.
WOU enters the weekend with 15 marks ranked in the top five in the conference, including four marks that currently lead the GNAC this year.
Cody Warner leads the GNAC in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.80, the only time under 22 seconds posted this season.
Badane Sultessa enters his last GNAC Indoor Championship with one of the fastest times in the nation in the 800 meters, 1:49.95. That was posted in his last outing at the Husky Classic last weekend in Seattle.
Also leading the GNAC is
David Ribich in the mile. He ran a time of 4:07.85 in Seattle last weekend in a race filled with the best milers in the Division I-ranks.
Sam Naffziger is second this season running his best time of 4:09.20.
Stephanie Stuckey posted the best women's mile so far with a time of 5:00.58 in January at the UW Invitational.
Last season at the meet, the WOU men finished sixth and the women placed seventh. Earning individual victories for the Wolves were Warner in the 200 (21.60) and
Brady Beagley in the mile (4:10.31).
The Wolves look to improve and nab final provisional marks for the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship. The national meet will be held in Pittsburg, Kan., beginning on March 11.
