HAYWARD/STANFORD, Calif.—Competing in the invitational section at the Stanford Invitational , Western Oregon sophomore
Darian Wilson placed seventh overall in the javelin on Friday.
Already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II national championships, Wilson unleashed a 150-6 (45.88m) to help solidify her national standing as the mark added more than 10 feet to her previous season best. The new distance approached her all-time career best of 154-5 and is currently the No. 8 mark in NCAA DII.
The bulk of the Western Oregon team competed across town at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, hosted by San Francisco State University at Chabot College. In all, seven Wolves set career bests so far at the three-day meet.
Closing out the day with the 5,000-meter run,
Tyler Jones shaved more than eight seconds off his former lifetime best with a 14:32.10. The time narrowly dipped below the NCAA DII provisional qualifying standard of 14:32.80 and stands as the No. 6 mark on the NCAA DII performance list. In addition, with the performance Jones moved up one spot to No. 3 on WOU's all-time performance list.
Also competing in the 5,000,
Sawyer Heckard crossed in 15:28.56 for a career best.
Parker Marson led a trio of Wolves in the 1,500 with a career-best time of 3:52.94 for 14th place overall.
Hunter Hutton finished just shy of his season best with 3:53.87 while
Justin Crosswhite crossed in 3:54.42.
In the hammer,
Mont Child uncorked a career best with a 163-4 (49.80m) toss for a fourth-place result. The mark was nearly a six-foot improvement over his previous long. For the women's throwers,
Mariah Gronbach established a new lifetime best in the hammer with a launch of 154-5 (47.06m).
Accounting for the team's highest individual finishes,
Owen Collins and
Karsten Collins went 1-2 in the men's shot put competition with Owen taking first with a 45-9 3/4 (13.96m) by two inches over his brother's 45-7 3/4 (13.91m).
In the hurdle races,
Ana Popchock posted a pair of career-best times. Popchock placed 11th in the 100 hurdles with a 15.49 and fourth in the 400 variety with a time of 1:06.04.
