SEATTLE, Wash./BOISE, Idaho – The Western Oregon University indoor track and field teams will be set to compete in two different locations this weekend. Some will be traveling to Seattle to compete in the Husky Classic, while some will venture to Boise to compete in the Boise State Team Challenge this Friday and Saturday.
At the Husky Classic, Maya Hopwood will be once again set to run in the 60-meter dash, Grace Knapp will compete in the 5k, Kalulusno Ngaida will be in the triple jump, Moana Gianotti in the weight throw, Gabe Arce-Torres in the 400-meter dash, Neal Cranston in the 800-meter run, Justin Crosswhite in the mile, along with Derek Holdsworth, Hunter Hutton and Emmett Klus.
At the Boise State Team Challenge, Hopwood will also compete in the 60-meter dash, Jenelle Hurley in the 60-meter hurdles, while Brennen Sorah will also compete in the men's 60-meter hurdles, Hopwood will also compete in the 200-meter dash, Sorah in the 800-meter run, Hurley in the high jump and the long jump, while Sorah will also be entered into the men's long jump.
Hopwood will be making her third trip to Seattle this year after running previous times of 7.74 and 7.73 at the University of Washington. Her top mark so far this year of 7.62 came in the Portland Indoor Meet #1. Hopwood has competed in the 200 once so far this season coming in the first trip to Portland and she posted a time of 26.10.
Knapp has been strong in both the 3k and 5k so far this year, as she opened the year in Seattle in the 3k coming in with a time of 10:03.05 and then competed in the 5k during the last trip to Seattle crossing with a time of 16:59.24.
Ngaida will be making her third trip to the University of Washington this week as coming off of a new season-high in the high jump reaching a mark of 5-5.25. She set her earlier triple jump mark in Seattle during the first visit in January reaching a distance of 36-11.
Gianotti is coming off of a season-best mark in the weight throw this past week in Portland reaching a distance of 49-9. During the last visit to Seattle, Gianotti hit a mark of 44-9 in the shot put.
Arce-Torres will be returning to UW for the third time this season, as he competed in the 400 each time running to times of 49.91 earlier in the season and 49.48 most recently.
This will also be Cranston's third trip to Seattle as he ran in the 800 each of his first two trips to UW coming in with times of 1:56.59 during the first visit and 1:54.99 most recently. He set a season-best in the 400 this past weekend in Portland when he crossed with a time of 52.75.
Crosswhite continued to improve on the mile last time out trimming his original mark at the start of the season from 4:09.72, down to 4:07.30 during the last visit to UW. This will be the first time this season for Holdsworth and Hutton to compete in the mile, while Klus competed in the mile last week in Portland coming in with a time of 4:22.00.
Hurley has entered into the 60-meter hurdles twice already this season coming in with her best time of 9.63 during the first visit to Portland. This past weekend she clocked a time of 9.69. Her top mark in the high jump came during the first visit to Seattle when she reached a mark of 5-3. In the long jump, her top distance of 17-10.75 came during the first visit to Portland.
Sorah had his best time this season in the 60-meter hurdles this past weekend in Portland coming in with a time of 8.74. This will be the first time this season for him to compete in the 800 and the long jump.
Following the meets this week, WOU will prepare for the GNAC Indoor Championships next week.
