NEW ORLEANS – Senior Derek Holdsworth continues to add to his already impressive hardware from the 2019-20 indoor season, as he earned the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's West Region Track Athlete of the Year on Friday.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
Holdsworth will represent the Western Oregon University track and field program at the upcoming NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships that will take place Mar. 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala. He will be joined by the other three members in the distance medley relay in Justin Crosswhite, Gabe Arce-Torres and Max Carmona. Holdsworth will also compete in the 800-meter.
Holdsworth ran the top time in all of Division II in the 800-meter back on Jan. 31 in the UW Invitational when he posted a blistering mark of 1:47.74. That same meet, he was part of a DMR team that finished first with a time of 9:52.02 and it remains the 11th best time in all of Division II entering the championships.
