SALEM, Ore. – It was a strong start to the outdoor season for both Kaylee Wright and Austin Goldstein as they hit provisional marks in the javelin on Saturday during the Willamette Opener. The Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams sent a handful of student-athletes to compete in the meet.
Wright hit a mark of 138-3 to win the javelin and hit her provisional mark. Madison Hargett came in second with a throw of 122-1 in her first attempt in the event as a member of the Wolves. Lyndee McLauchlin came in third with a distance of 118-0. Jenelle Hurley came in fifth with a throw of 96-7. Amity Deters added a mark of 90-8 to come in sixth.
Goldstein started the new season strong hitting a PR and provisional mark with a distance of 198-10 to win the javelin. Eli Nafziger was close to his PR in the event coming in third with a distance of 164-9. JJ Walker hit a mark of 128-11 to come in sixth, while Brennen Sorah placed eighth with a throw of 121-3.
In the shot put, Sorah, Walker and Gabe Burchfield all competed for the Wolves. Sorah hit a distance of 36-8.25 to come in fifth, with Walker right behind in sixth with a mark of 35-1.75 and Burchfield in seventh with a mark of 32-0.
Hurley led the Wolves in the shot put coming in third with a distance of 33-6.75. Deters came in seventh.
WOU will return to Willamette towards the end of the month when they will compete in the Willamette Invitational on Mar. 26.
