Crosswhite, Hurley And Smith All Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon University track and field teams were well represented on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Teams. Justin Crosswhite, Jenelle Hurley and Bailey Smith were all selected to the teams and will advance to the All-America ballot that will be announced in late June.

Crosswhite, a five-time GNAC Academic recipient, posted another perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in organizational leadership. The senior from Hood River, Ore., recently placed seventh at the GNAC Outdoor Championships in the 1,500 and also competed in the 800. Earlier this outdoor season he set a new PR time of 3:48.93 in the 1,500 at Bryan Clay. Crosswhite was close to his PR time in the 800 when he posted a time of 1:52.09 during the Oregon Relays. Crosswhite only competed in the outdoor season this year, having already used his final indoor and cross country years of eligibility. During last year's GNAC Outdoor Championships, he placed second in the 1,500 and fourth in the 800. During the 2020-21 academic year, Crosswhite was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team. Crosswhite ranks in the top 10 all-time in the WOU record books in several categories including seventh in the 1,500 and 10th in the 800 on the outdoor lists. On the indoor lists, he ranks second in the mile and placed second in the GNAC Cross Country Championships in 2019.

Hurley put together an impressive 2021-22 season that finished with her moving up the WOU top 10 record books and several school records in the process. Hurley holds a 3.97 GPA while majoring in business. The sophomore from Grants Pass, Ore., is a two-time GNAC Academic recipient and is coming off of a GNAC Outdoor Championships in which she tallied 30 points alone to help lead the Wolves to the team title. Hurley began the indoor season breaking the school record in both the long jump (18-3) and the pentathlon (3,457) and then during the outdoor season added more school records in the long jump (19-5.5). She also moved to second all-time in the heptathlon (4,821), fifth in the 100 hurdles (14.55) and tied for 10th in the triple jump. Hurley was named the GNAC Female Field Athlete of the Meet from the outdoor championships after winning the long jump, placing second in the heptathlon and fifth in the triple jump. On the track, Hurley placed fifth in both the 100 and 400 hurdles. There were multiple personal-best marks at GNAC's for Hurley including her time in the 400 hurdles (1:04.39), long jump (19-5.5) and the triple jump (37-5.25), in addition to the new points total in the heptathlon. During the GNAC Indoor Championships, Hurley won the pentathlon with her new school record total of 3,457, placed second in the long jump, sixth in the high jump and was part of the 4x400 relay that came in fifth. Hurley ranked in the top 30 nationally in both the heptathlon (21st) and the long jump (28th).

Smith holds a 3.70 GPA while majoring in communications. The junior from Cody, Wyo., has moved into the top 10 in the WOU record books in several events this season. During the GNAC Outdoor Championships, Smith placed fourth in the 3,000 steeple and then came in fifth in the 5,000. Smith set a personal-best time in the 5,000 of 14:48.92 during the Oregon State High Performance which ranks sixth on the WOU all-time list. He also added a PR time of 9:09.65 in the 3,000 steeple during the Mt. Sac Relays which ranks sixth on the WOU all-time list. During the GNAC Indoor Championships, Smith competed in both the 3,000 and the 5,000. He holds the fourth and fifth top times in the record books on the indoor side in the 3,000 and the 5,000. Smith posted a time of 8:26.30 in the 3,000 during the Husky Classic and a time of 15:03.61 in the 5,000 at the UW Invite. Smith started the season placing 17th at the GNAC Cross Country Championships and later came in 70th during the NCAA West Regional.
