MONMOUTH, Oregon --- It's game week for Western Oregon football! Each day before game day we are previewing a part of the Wolves' squad for the 2022 season - starting with special teams today, the defense on Tuesday and then the offense Wednesday.
SPECIAL TEAMS
The Western Oregon special teams returns a kicker from a year ago, will have a new punter and it's yet to be released who will be returning kicks in 2022.
Danny Cossette is back after kicking for the Wolves as a freshman in 2021 -Â Â going 3-for-7 on field goals with a long of 34 yards while making 22 of 24 point after attempts. Freshman
Charlie Shulkin and junior
Tanner Shattuck (who did kickoffs last season) will also be in the mix with the kicking.
Replacing the graduated
Andrew Gross at punter will be redshirt sophomore
Tiwfaluk Umulap - who comes to Western from Southern Oregon. Last season the Salem, Oregon, native punted four times for an average of 36.2 yards per punt.
The long snapper will be
Kade Hustler - a 6-foot-3, 245-pound sophomore tight end from Beaverton, Oregon.
Who is returning kicks this season hasn't been officially released, though the Wolves do return
Marquis Sampson - who returned a team-high 10 punts for 73 yards with a long of 39 yards while also returning nine kickoffs (second on the team) for an average of 22.2 yards and a long of 52 yards (tops on the team).
Joey Sinclair returns as well after returning six punts for 55 yards (9.2 yards per punt - long of 30 yards) and three kicks for 88 yards (29.3 yards per return with a long of 42 yards).
