SEATTLE/SPOKANE, Wash. --- The Western Oregon men's and women's track and field teams completed its first action of the 2023 calendar year Saturday with two athletes hitting NCAA provisional marks at the UW Indoor Preview in Seattle and the Spokane Indoor Challenge.

Dayne Gordien won the shot put at the Spokane Indoor Challenge, breaking his season best with a toss of 16.80 meters - converted to 55 feet, 1.5 inches, good for second in WOU history and fifth in GNAC history. It currently ranks 14th in the NCAA this season.

Hunter Hutton ran an NCAA provision time in the 3,000 with a time of 8:16.11 taking 20th in a Division-I filled race at the UW Indoor Preview. The time also ranks third on the WOU all-time men's indoor list and is eighth in NCAA D-II this season.

Another highlight of the weekend was WOU freshman Ujunwa Nwokoma setting the school record in the indoor long jump in her first performance as a Wolf, going 5.61 meters (18-5) to finish fourth at the Spokane Indoor Challenge. It broke teammate Jenelle Hurley's record of 18-3 set last season.
