The Western Oregon men's and women's track and field teams had some big performances in three different locations this past weekend - competing at the WSU Open in Spokane, the George Fox Indoor in Newberg and the Portland Indoor.
At the WSU Open (Thursday through Saturday),
Jenelle Hurley took 12th in the pentathlon with 3,400 points - an NCAA provisional mark,
Amari Hendrix set a personal best in the 200 of 22.35 (fourth in the GNAC this season) and
Dominique Loggins ran a 6.94 in the 60 - second in the GNAC this season.
At the George Fox Indoor on Sunday for the men,
Dayne Gordien won the shot put with a toss of 17.17 meters (56 feet, 4 inches) - another NCAA provisional and increasing his No. 2 mark in WOU history and No. 5 mark in GNAC history and
Justin Conklin (the GNACÂ Male Track Athlete of the Week this week) won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55 (his time of 8.50 in the prelims - good for sixth this season in the GNAC.
On the women's side,
Maliyah Thompson (the GNACÂ Female Track Athlete of the Week this week) won both the 60 meters and the 60-meter hurdles as she ran 7.75 seconds in both the preliminaries and finals of the 60 meters, ranking fifth in the GNAC this season, and won the 60-meter hurdles in 9.05 seconds and ran 8.89 seconds in the preliminaries, a time that ranks second in the conference this season.
Emillia Carpenter took second in the women's weight throw with a distance of 15.14 meters - fourth in the GNAC this season - while teammate
Liliana Lyness-Morales took third in the event at 14.71 meters - sixth in the GNAC this season.
At the Portland Indoor,
Natalie Perez set a personal record of 5:14.92 in the mile (11th in the GNAC this season),
Ali Clifton (10:58) and
Lindie Larson (10:58) and
Olivia Flack (11:00) took fourth, fifth and sixth in the 3,000 (all top-20 times in the GNAC this season). For the men,
Easton Pomrankey (8:46) and
Dustyn McKenney (8:49) set 3,000 personal bests to finish sixth and 11th (14th and 16th-best times in the GNAC this season) and
Rami Dear set a PR in the 800 at 1:59.21 - good for 14th in the GNAC this season.
The Wolves return to action Friday and Saturday at the Husky Classic in Seattle.
