MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon track and field teams picked up a pair of individual titles while the women's team leads and the men's team is in second at the GNAC Championships after Friday's first day at McArthur Field.
The WOU women lead with 80 points and are looking to defend their title from a year ago and for the season sweep after winning the indoor title this season. The Wolves are four points ahead of Western Washington. The WOU men sit with 46 points - second behind Western Washington's 73.5 points.
On the women's side,
Ujunwa Nwokoma won the conference title in the long jump with a distance of 5.68 meters with teammate
Jenelle Hurley taking third (5.58) and
Macy Clemens finishing fourth (5.56 meters).
For the men,
Dayne Gordien won the shot put for the Wolves with a distance of 16.54 meters while teammate
Mark Warren took third at 14.58 meters.
WOU's women's team also had two finish in the top three in the high jump with Hurley taking second (1.66 meters) and
Amity Deters taking third (1.61 meters).
Caitlin Heldt took second in the 10,000 to end the evening in a time of 37:05.14.
