PORTLAND, Ore. --- The 14th-ranked Western Oregon men's soccer team nearly swept all the major conference awards and had eight players recognized when the GNAC released their postseason awards Tuesday.
Wolves goalkeeper
Andre Schlaefli was named the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year,
Marcus Vazquez was tabbed the Freshman of the Year,
Caleb Kiner was selected the Newcomer of the Year and, for the second year in a row,
Michael Behonick was named of the GNAC Coach of the Year after leading WOU to a 13-4-1 record and the program's first GNAC title. The only award a Wolf didn't win was GNAC Player of the Year (Raymundo Mendez, Seattle Pacific).
Four WOU players earned GNAC First Team honors:
Yahir Ocampo Navarro,
Ethan Fisher, Schlaefli and Kiner. Another four were named All-GNAC Honorable Mention: Vazquez,
Jacob Garcia,
Abraham Villalobos and
Harper Neubeck.
The Wolves open their first trip to the NCAA Championship 2 p.m. (PT) Thursday when they take on Point Loma in Pueblo, Colorado.
