Four WOU top-10 marks highlight weekend in Southern California

The Western Oregon track and field was in Southern California this week for the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday and the Long Beach Invitational and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa on Friday and Saturday and saw a trio of WOU top-10 marks reached.

At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Caitlin Heldt moved up on the WOU all-time list in the 10,000 to No. 2 with a time of 35 minutes, 54.51 seconds.

Another distance school top-10 was improved upon in Azusa as Bailey Smith moved up a few spots to No. 3 on the WOU all-time list in the 5,000 with a time of 14:31.54.

Keeton Sanchez launched himself atop the GNAC performance with an NCAA D-II provisional in the 1,500 with a time of 3:47.55 - sixth in WOU history and 20th in D-II this season.

Prior to those two, Kalulusno Ngaida started the week with a big PR in the triple jump at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday at 38 feet, 11.75 inches (11.88 meters) to move from the No. 10 spot all the way to No. 3 with an 11.75 inch improvement from earlier this season.

Long jump school record holder Ujunwa Nwokoma set a season best in the event at 19-4.75 at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday – two inches short of her school record.

Freshman Marilyn Ramirez-Carmona took second in shot put at 12.89 meters (42-3.5) at the Larry Byerly L&C Invitational in Clackamas on Saturday a week after putting up the No. 7 mark in WOU history at 43-1.75 in her first outdoor collegiate try.
