SEATTLE - Seattle Pacific came from two sets down to defeat Western Oregon 17-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-19 and 15-10, Thursday, Sept. 24.

The win moved SPU (9-6) into first place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 3-0 record as WOU fell to 1-2 in league and to 4-10 on the season.

"We had a chance to beat a very good team on their court but we let it slip away," said WOU head coach Brad Saindon. "I was proud of how my team fought tonight but in the end errors cost us."

The Wolves controlled the first two sets statistically outhitting the Falcons .258 to .065 and .219 to .105. WOU also committed just seven errors in the first two sets while SPU faulted 17 times but it could not capture the illusive third set for the match victory.

"SPU picked it up as the match when on," Saindon noted. "This is a disappointing loss for us."

Danielle English led both sides with 32 digs and four service aces. The 32 digs eclipsed her previous season-best mark of 27. Amy Herron assisted on 41 of Western Oregon's 50 kills and also posted a season-high 19 digs for her third double-double. Danielle Reese nothched her sixth consecutive double-double with a team-leading 19 kills to go along with 20 digs. Laura Sakala led WOU with two blocks.

The Wolves used a 6-2 run to close out the first set to jump in front 1-0 early in the match. In the second set, WOU took 11 of the final 13 points win the set 25-19. SPU posted a critical 6-1 run in the middle of the third set, which was aided by four WOU attacking errors, to extend their lead from 11-10 to 17-11 as it propelled them to a 25-20 set win. The Falcons then took the fourth set 25-19 to force a deciding fifth set, the first of the season for the Wolves.

With the final set tied at 3-3, Seattle Pacific again used a 6-1 run to take a decisive lead. The Wolves battled back taking three straight points to make it 11-8 before the Falcons closed out the set 15-10.

Western Oregon will return to Monmouth to face Northwest Nazarene Saturday, Sept. 26th, at 7:00 p.m.
