MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon volleyball team saw its four-match home game winning streak snapped as the Wolves fell to Seattle Pacific in straight sets (18-25, 24-26, 22-25) in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match on Thursday night. With the loss, WOU fell to 10-4 overall, 3-2 in league play, while SPU improves to 6-9 overall, 3-3 in conference action.

“Seattle Pacific played extremely well; and, if you are not at the top of your game every night in conference play, these type of results can happen,” head coach Brad Saindon said. “It's a tough loss; but, our ultimate goal of winning a conference title is still there. We just have to come out of this stronger and be ready to play on Saturday.”

After falling in the first set, 18-25, the Wolves looked to rebound in the second set as WOU held a 24-20 lead. The Falcons responded, however, to win the next six points for a 26-24 victory to give SPU a 2-0 lead. Cailin Fellows capped the set with back-to-back kills to give the Falcons and improbable come-from-behind victory.

In the match's third and deciding set, the teams went back and forth before SPU used a 3-0 run with the score tied at 22-22 to claim the straight-set victory.

Danielle Reese led the way for WOU in the loss as she led the team with 11 kills. Krissi Kemper added five kills while hitting .625 for the match as Becky Blees led the defensive effort with six blocks. Samantha Ward added six kills to go along with a team-leading 13 digs in a losing effort.

Fellows led three SPU players in double-figure kills with 18 as the Falcons hit .241 for the match. SPU's Shelby Swanson led all players with 18 digs.

WOU will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 6, as the Wolves host Montana State Billings at 7:00 p.m.
