CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Thirty-seven members of Western Oregon University's track & field team are set to compete this weekend at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 8 & 9, at McArthur Stadium.

On the men's side, 17 Wolves will take part in the two-day event led by freshman sprinter Cody Warner, who is ranked No. 1 in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.40 seconds heading into this weekend. Along with Warner, fellow freshman Kaleb Dobson is ranked second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.58 seconds with NCAA Indoor All-American Badane Sultessa sitting third among all GNAC competitors in the 800 meter run.

Junior Justin Larson is one of six Wolves to have earned provisional marks for the upcoming NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as he has accomplished the feat in the javelin. Along with Larson, Warner (200 meter dash), Sultessa (800 meter run), junior Josh Hanna (800 meter run), junior Sam Naffziger (1,500 meter run), and junior Zach Holloway (3,000 meter steeplechase) have also earned provisional times in their respective races.

On the women's side, 20 Wolves will take part in this weekend's GNAC Championships led by senior Rebecca Laible returning to defending her title in the triple jump as she enters the event as the No. 1 seed with a leap of 38-4 last weekend at the Mt. Hood Track Festival. Along with Laible, junior Stephanie Stuckey figures to contribute in both the 800 and 1,500 meter runs.

Along with Stuckey, who reached a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 1,500 meter run, three other Wolves – junior Emmi Collier, freshman Amanda Short, and freshman Sheila Limas De La Cruz – have also earned provisional marks for the NCAA Division II Championships in the shot put and javelin, respectively.

Competition at this weekend's GNAC Championships begins on Friday, May 8, with the field events at 2 PM following by the track events starting at 2:45 PM. On Saturday, competition begins at 9:30 AM with the women's hammer before the field events start with the women's 400 meter relay at 11 AM.
