Cross Country to Host The Sundowner This Friday at Ash Creek Preserve

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Having already hosted one event to start the regular season, the Western Oregon University cross country teams will now prepare to host the Sundowner Invitational this Friday at Ash Creek Preserve.

Set to compete will be Alaska Fairbanks, Biola, Central Washington, Clackamas CC, Concordia, Humboldt State, Oregon Running Club, Lane CC, Pacific, San Francisco State, Southwestern CC, Warner Pacific, Walla Walla and Western Oregon.

The women's 6k race will start at 5 p.m. with the men's 8k race to start at 5:45 p.m. Last year during this week the women only competed in San Francisco at the SF State Invitational coming in fifth. A few runners from each team then traveled just down the road the week after to run in the Charles Bowles Willamette Invite.

Kaylin Cantu is coming off of a strong race at the Ash Creek Invitational in which she placed 11th with a time of 15:41.7 in the 4k race. As a team, the Wolves finished second only behind Division I University of Oregon. Three placed in the top-17 for the Wolves with Cassie McKinney coming in 15th with a time of 16:00.1 and Olivia Jimenez in 17th with a time of 16:18.0.

On the men's side, Bryce Mefford and Curt Knott paced WOU with the two finishing back-to-back in 27th and 28th in the 6k race at the Ash Creek Invitational. Mefford posted a time of 19:39.8 and Knott crossed with a time of 19:41.4. As a team, WOU placed 11th.
