Cross Country Teams Each Collect Top-Five Finishes at Sundowner

MONMOUTH, Ore. –
The second home meet proved to be another success for the Western Oregon University cross country teams with both the women and men placing fifth in the 6k and 8k races that took place Friday at the Ash Creek Preserve.

On the women's side in the 6k race the Wolves posted 144 points with Portland taking the title with 43 points, just holding off Biola's 53 points. Rounding out the top-three was Simon Fraser. Portland had the top-three finishers with Victoria Weir winning the individual title with a time of 22:17.4.

Grace Knapp paced the Wolves in her first race of the season and collected a strong finish of fifth with a time of 22:51.3. She ran an average mile time of 6:08. Cassie McKinney pushed for a top-20 result and came close before crossing in 21st with a time of 23:36.1. Her average mile time was 6:20. Kaylin Cantu gave WOU three finishers in the top-25 when she crossed in 24th with a time of 23:43.2. Her average mile time was pretty close to that of McKinney posting an average of 6:22. Olivia Jimenez crossed with a time of 24:08.4 to come in 37th. She averaged 6:29 per mile. Faerynn Glasscock clocked a time of 25:23.9 to come in 68th (average mile time of 6:49), while Natalie Pihulak rounded out the runners for the Wolves in 91st with a time of 27:12.9 (average mile time of 7:18).

On the men's side in the 8k race WOU posted 135 points to grab fifth. Biola took the title with 38 points, followed by Portland (55 points) and Simon Fraser (78 points) rounded out the top-three. Biola's Gabe Plendcio won the individual title with a time of 24:36.5, holding off the next closest runner from Humboldt State by over 16 seconds.

Justin Crosswhite had a strong start to his fall campaign competing in his first race of the season he crossed in third with a time of 24:57.1. Crosswhite was close to second throughout the race before coming in third. He had an average mile time of 5:02. Hunter Mosman gave the Wolves two in the top-25 when he came across in 25th with a time of 25:39.8. He ran to an average mile time of 5:10. Sawyer Heckard wasn't far behind in 31st with a time of 25:54.7. His average mile time was 5:13. Andy Muha gave WOU four in the top-40 when his time of 26:06.0 placed him 38th. He ran to an average mile time of 5:16. Bryce Mefford made a strong move down the stretch to jump up to 53rd with a time of 26:40.5. He had an average mile time of 5:22. Zach Kanelis and Emmett Klus finished just a few spots apart with Kanelis coming in 66th with a time of 27:05.4 and Klus in 68th with a time of 27:10.8. Kanelis had an average mile time of 5:27 and Klus was at 5:29. Curt Knott was just a few spots back in 73rd clocking a time of 27:14.4 for an average mile time of 5:29. Adam Alnazer crossed in 84th with a time of 27:56.7 (average mile time 5:38), Tyler Tenny came in 88th with a time of 28:10.8 (average mile time 5:41) and Teylor Howard in 95th with a time of 29:09.8 (average mile time 5:53).

WOU will have the next week off before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 when they will travel just down the road to compete in the 45th annual Charles Bowles Willamette Invite (5K/8K) that will take place at Bush Park in Salem.
