PORTLAND, Ore. – Luz Garcia has certainly started out her Western Oregon University career in style. After winning the Ash Creek Collegiate two weeks ago, Garcia made it two in a row when she won the Mike Johnson Classic this past Friday to help her earn Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors Monday.

Following a win in the 4k Ash Creek Collegiate, the extra 2k didn't slow down Garcia as she cruised to the win with a time of 21:46.4 in the 6k at the Mike Johnson Classic. She ran to an average mile time of 5:50.2 and held off a runner from GNAC school Simon Fraser to take the title out of 123 total runners. Overall, Garcia helped the Wolves place fifth in the meet.

WOU will have this coming week off before traveling to Chicago on Oct. 9 to compete in the Lewis Crossover.
