Wolves Post Multiple Top-10 Program Marks To Begin 2022 At UW Indoor Preview

SEATTLE, Wash. – Several top-10 program marks were posted throughout the day by the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams on Saturday during the UW Indoor Preview. The highest of the marks came from Ana Popchock when she posted the second-fastest time in program history in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.04.

Other top results that moved up the program record books included Hunter Hutton in the mile as he not only hit a provisional mark, but also moved to fifth on the all-time list in the event posting a time of 4:07.78. His time also ranks ninth in GNAC history in the mile. Overall in the event, Hutton placed 15th.

Bailey Smith and Keanu Daos each had strong showings in the men's 3,000 and moved into the top-10 all-time in program history in the event. Smith moved to fourth on the list with a time of 8:27.47, while Daos' time of 8:36.69 lands him eighth on the all-time list.

Maliyah Thompson made an impressive indoor debut for the Wolves moving into the top-10 in two events. Thompson's time in the 60-meter hurdles of 9.24 puts her in 10th on the all-time list. Then she also added a time of 8.08 in the 60-meter dash which lands in a tie for ninth on the all-time list.

In the women's 60-meter dash, Maya Hopwood qualified for the final hitting a time of 7.92 to come in eighth. Thompson was right behind in the event crossing in 11th with her top-10 time of 8.08. Popchock finished almost right next to Thompson coming in 12th with a time of 8.10. In the finals, Hopwood again came in eighth with a time of 7.98.

WOU had three qualify in the women's 60-meter hurdles led by Popchock's second-fastest program time of 9.04 to come in fifth in the prelims. Thompson was the next one in for the Wolves coming in seventh with her top-10 time of 9.24. Jenelle Hurley crossed in eighth with a time of 9.37. During the finals, Popchock nearly ran the same identical time crossing at 9.05 to again come in fifth. Hurley moved up to seventh in the finals with a time of 9.36. Thompson came in eighth with a time of 9.56.

Brennen Sorah qualified in the men's 60-meter hurdles clocking a time of 9.05 to come in sixth during the prelims. Sorah trimmed his time down even more in the final when he crossed at 9.00 to come in fifth.

WOU had two enter in the women's 200-meter dash with Jessy Hart coming in 13th with a time of 26.78 and Bethanie Altamirano in 15th with a time of 27.40.

Caleb Southworth had a strong showing in the men's 600-meter coming in with a time of 1:26.95 to place fourth.

The Wolves had three enter in the men's 800-meter. Keeton Sanchez led the way for WOU coming in 12th with a time of 1:55.49. Timothy Rambo wasn't far behind Sanchez's time when he crossed at 1:57.19 to come in 17th. Dustyn Mckenney rounded out the results for the Wolves when he crossed in 22nd.

Katie Chapman and Lindie Larson nearly came in with the same times in the women's 1,000 with Chapman leading the way coming in third with a time of 3:12.21. Larson was right behind with a time of 3:12.49 to come in fourth.

Caitlin Heldt came in 27th with a time of 10:32.96 in the women's 3,000.

In the women's high jump, WOU had four entries in the event with Amity Deters hitting the top mark of 5-01 to come in sixth. Kalulusno Ngaida, Macy Clemens and Hurley all hit the same height of 4-11 with Ngaida coming in seventh and Clemens and Hurley tying for eighth.

Devin Hasher reached a height of 6-00.75 in the men's high jump to come in seventh.

Hurley was close to her PR and current No. 7 mark on the all-time list in the women's long jump when she hit a mark of 18-09.75 to come in third. Clemens came in eighth hitting a distance of 16-04.25. Deters rounded out the three in the event for the Wolves coming in 12th.

In the men's long jump, Stevens reached a new season-best with a distance of 21-10 to come in seventh. JJ Walker also entered into the event and came in 13th.

Smith and Daos then each put together impressive times in the men's 3,000 to move into the top-10 all-time. Smith crossed at 8:27.47 to come in 31st and move to fourth on the list, while Daos crossed at 39th with a time of 8:36.69 to move to seventh on the list.

Moana Gianotti and Liliana Lyness-Morales each entered int the women's shot put with Gianotti coming in fourth with a distance of 40-05 and Lyness-Morales came in 10th. Gianotti and Lyness-Morales each entered in the women's weight throw along with Emillia Carpenter. Gianotti came in sixth with a throw of 48-08. Lyness-Morales had the 11th-best throw, while Carpenter added the 12th-best throw.

Owen Collins placed sixth in the men's shot put hitting a mark of 44-09.50. Collins then entered in the men's weight throw along with Mark Warren. Collins came in sixth with a mark of 49-07 and Warren came in with the eighth-best throw.

Popchock and Ngaida both competed in the women's triple jump. Popchock came in fifth hitting a distance of 35-09.50. Ngaida was right behind in sixth with a mark of 35-02.00.

The women's 4x400 relay team of Hart, Hurley, Natalie Clemente and Altamirano crossed in third with a time of 4:10.61.

WOU will be back in Seattle at the University of Washington before the month is out returning on Jan. 28-29 to compete in the UW Invite.

This coming week, the Wolves will compete at the George Fox Indoor on Saturday, Jan. 22 and also at the Portland Indoor #2 on Sunday, Jan. 23.
