SEATTLE, Wash. – It was a strong start to the UW Invite for the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams on Friday. Caitlin Heldt, Bailey Smith, Keanu Daos and Amity Deters all collected top-10 program marks.
Heldt's time of 17:43.91 in the 5,000 moved her to third on the WOU all-time indoor program record books. Overall in the event she placed 16th.
In the men's 5,000, Smith and Daos moved into the top-10 program list. Smith crossed at 15:03.61 to move to fifth on the all-time list, while Daos posted a time of 15:07.62 to land the sixth-best time. Overall in the event, Smith came in 24th, while Daos placed 26th.
Deters moved into the top-10 in the high jump reaching a mark of 5-4.25 to move to 10th on the all-time list. Overall in the event, she came in eighth.
Sam Cole opened his indoor season competing in the men's weight throw reaching a distance of 49-1.75 to come in sixth. Owen Collins also competed in the event coming in eighth with a distance of 44-11.
In the women's weight throw, Moana Gianotti came in 10th hitting a distance of 48-3.5. Liliana Lyness-Morales placed 19th with a distance of 43-4.5. Emillia Carpenter also entered the event coming in 23rd.
In the women's 60 hurdles, Maliyah Thompson placed 12th and Jenelle Hurley came in 15th in the prelims.
Brennen Sorah competed in the men's 60 hurdles coming in 11th in the prelims.
Jessy Hart competed in the women's 200 crossing in 33rd with a time of 26.77.
Gabe Arce-Torres ran in the men's 200 posting a time of 23.92 to come in 20th.
In addition to Deters competing in the women's high jump, Kalulusno Ngaida and Hurley also entered in the event for the Wolves with each reaching a mark of 5-0.25. Ngaida passed the 5-0.25 on her first attempt to place 15th, while Hurley cleared the 5-0.25 mark on her second try to place 18th.
WOU will continue the UW Invite on Saturday with events starting at 9:30 a.m.
