Track And Field Set To Compete In The Husky Classic, Portland Indoor Meets This Weekend

SEATTLE, Wash./PORTLAND, Ore. – The Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams have been a regular at the University of Washington meets this indoor season and will be making a third trip to the area this weekend when the Wolves compete in the Husky Classic on Friday and Saturday. WOU will close the weekend on Sunday participating in the Portland Indoor #4.

WOU opened the New Year traveling to Seattle to participate in the UW Indoor Preview. Then a few weeks after that, the Wolves finished January back in Seattle competing in the UW Invite. WOU also made a trip to Portland near the end of January.

The Wolves will travel 20 student-athletes this weekend to Seattle including Gabe Arce-Torres, Kaylin Cantu, Emillia Carpenter, Sam Cole, Justin Conklin, Keanu Daos, Luz Garcia, Moana Gianotti, Marlon Harrison, Caitlin Heldt, Maya Hopwood, Hunter Hutton, Liliana Lyness-Morales, Kalulusno Ngaida, Ana Popchock, Timothy Rambo, Keeton Sanchez, Bailey Smith, Maliyah Thompson and Mark Warren will all make the trip.

Making the trip to Portland will be Cedar Davis-Frankfort, Jaden McCabe, Jordan Kemper, Easton Pomrankey, Emily Moore, Emily Johnson, Kaitlyn Kruse, Lindie Larson and Katie Chapman.

Arce-Torres will compete in his fourth meet this indoor season in Seattle having run in both the 200 and 400 so far. His top time in the 200 has been 22.89 at the Spokane Invitational and then ran the 400 for the first time this indoor season during the last meet at the WSU Open in Spokane posting a time of 51.30.

Cantu will run in her third meet this indoor season competing in 3,000 in two meets. Her top time of 10:37.37 occurred at the Portland Indoor #2 Meet.

Carpenter will enter in her fifth meet this indoor season having competed in the weight throw each time. Her top mark so far is 45-2.5 during the Spokane Invitational.

Cole will be throwing in his third meet this indoor season having entered in the shot put and weight throw in both. His top marks so far are 49-1.75 in the weight throw and 45-3 in the shot put, both coming at the UW Invite.

Conklin will enter his third meet this indoor season having run in the 60 hurdles and the high jump so far. He reached a height of 6-4.75 in the high jump and crossed with a time of 8.75 in the 60 hurdles, both at the Spokane Invitational.

Daos will run in his third meet this indoor season having entered in the 5,000 and the 3,000. His top times so far include 15:07.62 in the 5,000 at the UW Invite and then a time of 8:36.69 in the 3,000 at the UW Preview.

Garcia set a new top-10 program record time in the 3,000 this past weekend at the WSU Open crossing at 10:26.79. It was Garcia's first indoor meet of the season.

Gianotti will compete in her sixth indoor meet this year having entered in the shot put and weight throw each time. She equaled her season-best mark in the weight throw this past week at the WSU Open with a distance of 49-4.25. Gianotti also hit that mark to start the indoor season at the Spokane Invitational. She also hit a top distance in the shot put at the Spokane Invitational with a mark of 42-10.25.

Harrison will compete in his fifth indoor meet this weekend having entered in the long jump and triple jump. He hit a top distance of 20-8 in the long jump at the Portland Indoor #2 and also hit a top mark on the season in the triple jump at that same meet of 44-3.5.

Heldt will compete in her fifth meet this indoor season entering in the mile, 5,000 and the 3,000 so far. Some of her top times include 5:15.07 in the mile at the WSU Open, 10:19.38 in the 3,000 at the Spokane Invitational and ran the 5,000 once so far this indoor season at the UW Invite with a time of 17:43.91.

Hopwood will compete in her sixth indoor meet of the season this week. So far, she has competed in the 60 in each meet, as well as the 200 twice. Hopwood's top marks this indoor season include 7.82 in the 60 at the Spokane Invitational and then a time of 26.43 also in Spokane in the 200.

Hutton is entering his third meet so far this indoor season having competed in the mile twice. His top time of 4:07.47 occurred at the UW Invite.

Lyness-Morales will compete in her fifth meet so far this indoor season having entered in the shot put and weight throw so far. Her top marks have been a distance of 35-10 in the shot put and 47-4.5 in the weight throw, both at the Spokane Invitational.

Ngaida will compete in her fifth meet so far this indoor season. She has entered in the high jump and triple jump, posting top marks of 5-2.25 in the high jump at the WSU Open, and Portland Indoor #2. Ngaida added a top mark of 35-6.75 in the triple jump at Portland Indoor #2.

Popchock will compete in her fifth meet this indoor season. Coming off of a new program record mark in the 60 hurdles of 8.83 at the WSU Open. During that same meet, Popchock also hit a new PR distance in the triple jump of 36-10.5. Some other top marks from the indoor season include a time of 7.95 in the 60-meter dash from the Spokane Invitational.

Rambo will compete in his fifth indoor meet this season. He has entered in the 800 and mile so far with top times of 4:27.62 in the mile at the WSU Open and a time of 1:55.56 in the 800 at the UW Invite.

Sanchez will compete in his fifth indoor meet this season. He is coming off of a pair of strong results in two straight meets. Sanchez posted a time of 4:24.43 in the mile at the WSU Open and then the week before that crossed at 1:53.88 in the 800 at the UW Invite.

Smith will compete in his fourth indoor meet this season. He has entered in the 5,000 and 3,000 with top times of 15:03.61 in the mile at the UW Invite and then a time of 8:27.47 in the 3,000 at the UW Preview.

Thompson will compete in her fifth indoor meet this season. It has been a steady climb up the top-10 program record books for Thompson in both the 60-meter dash and the 60 hurdles. She reached new season-best marks in both this past week at the WSU Open posting time of 7.86 in the 60-meter dash and a time of 9.14 in the 60 hurdles.

Warren will compete in his fourth indoor meet this season. He has entered in the weight throw each time and then added the shot put in the most recent meet. His top marks include a distance of 43-11.25 in the shot put at the WSU Open and then a distance of 49-0.75 in the weight throw at Portland Indoor #2.

Davis-Frankfort will be competing in his second straight Portland Indoor Meet this week after running in the 3,000 this past weekend.

McCabe will be making his third straight trip to Portland competing in both the Portland Indoor #2 and #3 meets. He entered in the 3,000 both times.

Kemper will be traveling to Portland for the third straight time this week. Having competed in both the Portland Indoor #2 and Portland Indoor #3 he ran the 800 each time.

Pomrankey will also be traveling to Portland for the third time this indoor season. Having competed in both the Portland Indoor #2 and Portland Indoor #3, he ran the 800 both times. Pomrankey also entered in the Spokane Invitational where he competed in the 800 and the 4x400 relay.

Moore will be traveling to Portland for the second straight week having run in the 3,000 during the Portland Indoor #3.

Johnson will be traveling to Portland for the second straight week having run in the 3,000 during the Portland Indoor #3.

Kruse will be making her third straight trip to Portland after competing in both the Portland Indoor #2 and the Portland Indoor #3 running in the 3,000 both times.

Larson will be returning to Portland for the third straight time having competed in the Portland Indoor #2 and the Portland Indoor #3 entering in the mile both times.

Chapman will be making her second trip to Portland this indoor season having competed in the mile during the Portland Indoor #2. Chapman also competed in the WSU Open, UW Preview and Spokane Invitational, running in the 800, mile and 4x400.
