CORVALLIS, Ore. – Bailey Smith, Luz Garcia and Keanu Daos all collected top 10 program times on Friday to lead the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams during the first day of the Oregon State High Performance.
Smith competed in the 5,000 invitational and posted a time of 14:48.92 to come in 20th overall. His new time moves him to sixth on the WOU all-time list in the event.
Garcia ran her first 10,000 of the outdoor season and also moved into the top 10 in program history when she posted a time of 38:54.51 to come in seventh overall. In terms of the WOU top 10 list, Garcia now sits eighth.
Daos also competed in the 5,000, but ran in a different section than Smith. Daos crossed with a time of 14:57.97 to place 15th overall. At the time, he moved to ninth on the WOU all-time top 10 list, but after Smith finished his race, Daos now sits 10th on the all-time list.
Samuel Cole hit a new PR in the hammer reaching a distance of 173-03 to come in fourth.
Emillia Carpenter was close to her PR in the hammer reaching a distance of 141-06 to place 19th. Liliana Lyness-Morales came in 23rd in the hammer hitting a distance of 135-02.
Jenelle Hurley led the Wolves in the long jump coming in third with a distance of 18-08. It was a new PR for Amity Deters when she placed ninth with a mark of 17-05.25. Ana Popchock came in 13th hitting a distance of 16-10.75, while Macy Clemens placed 16th with a mark of 16-06.50.
Keeton Sanchez reached a new PR in the 1,500 crossing with a time of 3:53.45 to place fourth.
Krystal Andres just missed hitting her PR in the discus with a throw of 122-11 to come in 17th. Halle Hargett was right behind hitting a distance of 118-03 to place 20th.
Emmett Klus, Timothy Rambo and Bryce Mefford all competed in the 1,500 Open with Klus leading the way crossing at 3:58.07 to place seventh. Rambo was the next one in coming in with a time of 4:02.02 to place 13th, while Mefford came in 28th.
Caitlin Heldt led three Wolves in the 1,500 Open coming in 30th with a time of 4:49.33. It was a new PR time for Katie Chapman when she crossed at 4:50.40 to place 32nd. Lindie Larson also competed in the event for the Wolves placing 67th.
Amari Hendrix just missed a new PR in the 200 coming in 13th with a time of 22.62. James Mazzeo also competed for the Wolves placing 27th.
Maya Hopwood and Maliyah Thompson were close to finishing at the same time in the 200 with Hopwood coming in ninth with a time of 25.63 and Thompson finishing at 25.74 to place 11th. Taryn Wilson also entered for the Wolves coming in 20th.
Cedar Davis-Frankfort placed 22nd and Dustyn McKenney came in 25th in the 5,000 Open.
Emily Johnson came in 31st in the 5,000.
WOU will continue the Oregon State High Performance tomorrow (Saturday) with events beginning around 11 a.m.
