WESTERN OREGON NOTES
  • The Wolves are coming off a big weekend series win over 10th-ranked Northwest Nazarene to move within a game of the Nighthawks for first place.
  • The victories also moved WOU into the NCBWA West Region rankings at No. 9 - its first time back in the top 10 since Jan. 22
  • It's a key series for WOU this weekend against Central Washington as the Wildcats sit just a game behind the Wolves for second place (NNU doesn't play this weekend).
  • Pitching and defense has been key to the Wolves' recent success (winning seven of their last 10 games) as WOU leads the GNAC in ERA (4.30 - tied for 25th in D-II) and fielding percentage (.973 - 19th in D-II).
  • The Wolves also rank in the top 20 in NCAA Division II in: Hits allowed per nine innings (8.27 - 18th), triples (14 - 16th), triples per game (0.42 - 13th), WHIP (1.30 - 10th) and walks allowed per nine innings (3.41 - 18th).
  • Justyn Herzog continues to be a ball magnet at the plate as he's been hit 16 times by a pitch - first in the conference and 13th in the nation. Teammate John Oleson isn't far behind with 12, second in the GNAC.
  • Curran Mitzel's five triples this season is first in the GNAC and sixth in D-II.

CENTRAL WASHINGTON NOTES
  • The Wildcats are coming off splitting a series on the road at Saint Martin's - winning both games Saturday (5-4, 11-0) and dropping both games Sunday (7-2, 4-2) as they now sit two games behind first-place Northwest Nazarene and a game behind Western Oregon.
  • CWU swept the GNAC weekly individual honors this week with Jonathan Garza II earning GNAC Pitcher of the Week after tossin a no-hitter against Saint Martin's on Saturday with six strikeouts and four walks while Ryan McCarthy earned GNAC Player of the week after hitting .500 (7-for-14) with seven RBI.
  • The Wildcats lead the GNAC in hitting at .305 thanks to having five players hitting above .325 - including the GNAC's leading hitting Ben Leid, who also has four homers, 28 RBI, seven doubles and three triples.
  • CWU's starting pitchers all have ERAs between 4.04 (Pierce Logan) and 4.47 (Garza II, Brady) and between 40.1 innings and 46.1 innings thrown. Garza II leads the team in strikeouts (47) and batting average against (.201).  Nolan Millman has been the team's top reliever with a 1.93 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 14 innings (over 10 appearances).
  • Fielding has been a troublesome spot for the Wildcats as they are last in the conference and 228th in D-II (out of 245) in fielding percentage at 0.943.

WESTERN OREGON NOTES
  • Key series for both teams as Wolves and Wildcats are tied for the fourth and final spot into the GNAC Championships at 6-6. WOU has CWU and nationally ranked Western Washington and Northwest Nazarene left on its schedule for its final 12 games while the Wildcats have WOU, WWU and last-place Simon Fraser left to play.
  • The Wolves do feature three pitchers in the top 10 in the GNAC in ERA in Mackenzee Collins (1.76), Alivia Holden (1.87) and Erica Soliz (3.33).
  • Holden leads the GNAC in opposing batting average as opponents are hitting .166 against the freshman. Collins is fifth in that category (.216) and Soliz is ninth (.245).
  • Collins leads the GNAC in strikeouts with 126 - which is ninth on the WOU single-season list. Katie Fleer has the all-time record of 193 set in 2008 and last season Chelsea Smith reached the fifth spot on the list with 154.
  • Natalie Willoughby with her team-high five homers this season gives her 19 in her career - sixth on the WOU all-time list.

  • Alyssa Benthagen has been CWU's most dangerous hitter in the lineup - hitting .313 wit hthree home runs, 15 RBI and nine runs.
  • Ashlee Laver leads the 'Cats in the circle wit ha 2.97 ERA with 12 complete games and 54 strikeouts in 97 innings of work. In her previous two starts against NNU, she had a 2.63 ERA with six strikeouts in 13 innings of work.
