MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon men's cross country team took first and the women's team took third at the Ash Creek Collegiate on Friday - the opening event for both teams in 2024.
The WOU men were paced by
Easton Pomrankey as he took second in the 6K event with a time of 18 minutes, 28.76 seconds.
Logan Parker took fourth (18:43.16),
Alden Roy finished fifth (18:48.40),
Matthew Resnik took eighth and
Timothy Rambo rounded out the Wolves' scoring by finishing ninth. WOU finished with 28 points, three points ahead of Lewis and Clark as the two teams combined to have the top-nine finishers in the race.
On the women's side, the Wolves raced only six with many key upperclassmen continuing to train through this first event.
Kaydence Nguyen led the Wolves by taking seventh in the 5K race in a time of 19:25.52.
Amelia Merritt took ninth (19:32.20),
Ali Clifton finished 11th (19:36.36),
Katie Chapman finished 17th (20:14.25) and
Natalie Perez rounded out the WOU scoring by taking 23rd (20:30.11).
Lewis & Clark won the event with 47 points (led by having the top two finishers), Willamette took second (59 points) while WOU took third with 62 points in teh seven-team field.
The Wolves compete again Sept. 27 when they host the Mike Johnson Classic at Ash Creek Preserve in Monmouth.
