MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's cross country team took first place and the men took second at the Mike Johnson Classic on Friday at Ash Creek Preserve.
The WOU women won the four-team field by having all five of their scorers finish in the top nine of those who counted toward the scorers (there were several independent runners in the race).
Kyla Potratz led the Wolves by taking fourth overall and second in scoring with a time of 22 minutes, 23.3 seconds in the 6K race.
Amelia Merritt took seventh for WOU overall and third in scoring at 22:43.2 followed by
Olivia Flack (22:57.2, 9th overall, fourth in scoring),
Katie Chapman (23:04.8, 10th overall, fifth in scoring) and
Kaydence Nguyen (23:17.3, 14th overall, ninth in scoring).
On the men's side - the Wolves finished behind only Northwest Nazarene - which is ranked ninth in the latest West Region NCAA Division II rankings. While the Nighthawks took the the top three spots in the 69-person, 8K race, WOU took the next three spots with
Easton Pomrankey taking fourth (24:36.7),
Logan Parker finishing fifth (24:51.1) and
Keeton Sanchez finishing sixth (24:58.2). Rounding out the scoring for WOU was
Remedan Seman taking ninth (25:11.8) and
Timothy Rambo finishing 10th (25:13.6).
