NO. 13 WOLVES WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENS GNAC PLAY
The 13th-ranked Western Oregon women's soccer team (3-0-1) opens GNAC play this week as the Wolves travel to face Saint Martin's (2-1-1)Â 3 p.m. Thursday before returning home to host undefeated Northwest Nazarene (2-0-2) 11 a.m. Saturday.
WOUÂ hasn't played since Sept. 9 - a scoreless draw at Cal Poly Humboldt. Last season against Saint Martin's, the Wolves defeated the Saints 2-0 at home before falling 1-0 on the road later in the season, and overall are 13-12-4 against SMU since the Saints' program began in 2007.
Against Northwest Nazarene in 2022, the Wolves tied at home 0-0 before falling 5-0 in Idaho. The Wolves haven't beaten NNU since Sept. 22, 2018 (a streak of eight games - 0-4-4) and haven't won at home against the Nighthawks since Sept. 24, 2016 (a streak of five games - 0-3-2). Overall, the Wolves are 26-15-9 against NNU with the 50 matches the second-most against any opponent in WOU history (the Wolves have played Western Washington 52 times).
CROSS COUNTRY SET TO HOST MIKE JOHNSON CLASSIC ON FRIDAY
ASH CREEK PRESERVE RECORDS
The Western Oregon cross country team hosts the annual Mike Johnson Classic on Friday with the women's race beginning at 11 a.m. and the men's race starting at 11:45 a.m. at Ash Creek Preserve.
The Wolves women will have 16 competitor going in the 6K race while the men's team will have 17 student-athletes competing in the 8K race. WOU last competed in the Ash Creek Collegiate on Sept. 8 with
Easton Pomrankey leading the men in the 6K race (18:19.3 - taking ninth) and
Caitlin Heldt leading the women in the 5K race (18:09.4 - taking sixth).
The Mike Johnson Classic (formerly the Sundowner) record in the men's 8K race is 24:36 set by Biola's Gabe Plendcio in 2019 while the women's 6K race record is 21:46 set by Western Oregon's
Luz Garcia in 2021.Â

WOU FOOTBALL RETURNS HOME TO TAKE ON CENTRAL WASHINGTON
The WOUÂ football team looks to return to the winning column this week as the Wolves host Central Washington 1:05 p.m. Saturday at McArthur Stadium.
The Wolves opened Lone Star Conference play last week with a 30-29 loss at Eastern New Mexico where the Greyhounds scored with 68 seconds remaining to snag the win from the Wolves in a game WOU trailed 14-0 before outscoring ENMUÂ 29-3 over the final 19 minutes minutes to take a 29-17 at the half.
Dominique Loggins earned LSC Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Wolves with 209 yards rushing (tied for 9th on the WOU single-game all-time list) to go along with a touchdown while
Austin Bacher rushed for 167 yards and three scores.
Gannon Winker went 11-for-24 for 79 yards and an interception with
Keyvaun Eady led the team with six catches for 55 yards. Defensively
Malcolm Liufau and
JJ Tofaeono led the team with seven tackles apiece. On the season, Loggins leads the team with 291 rushing yards - 19th in the nation and second in the LSC.
The Wolves defeated CWU 16-14 in Ellensburg last season with the Wolves scoring with nine seconds remaining to pick up the win. WOU is looking to defeat the Wildcats in Monmouth for the first time since 2015 (five consecutive losses). Overall, WOU is 22-46 against CWU with the 68 games played against the Wildcats the second most of any opponent (the Wolves have played Southern Oregon 74 times - though not since 2010).
WOLVES VOLLEYBALL HAS EYES SET ON SATURDAY MATCHUP WITH SAINT MARTIN'SÂ
The WOU volleyball team looks to build off a win last Saturday as the Wolves host Saint Martin's 7 p.m. Saturday at New PE Building.
WOU started conference play last week, falling to Seattle Pacific Thursday in three sets before grinding out a five-set win over Montana State Billings on Saturday to move to 7-3 on the season and 1-1 in GNAC play.
Madison Hornback has paced the Wolves this season at 3.97 points per set - tops in the GNAC.
Last season, the Wolves lost to SMU in Lacey, Washington, in three sets on Sept. 24 before defeating the Saints in four sets on Oct. 22. Since 2000, the Wolves are 35-9 against SMU - including 18-4 at home - though the Saints have won three of the last four matches.
