Hall of Fame
A standout track & field and football student-athlete, he was inducted into the NAIA District 2 Hall of Fame in 1979. As a track athlete, he was a NAIA All-American in 1958 after placing fifth at nationals in the javelin and he left Western Oregon with a school record of 217-5 in the event. A captain on the track & field and football teams, he went on to coach high school football in Oregon for 33 years. He was named the Oregon Coach of the Year in 1983 while at Canby High School and was the National High School Coaches Association Region 7 Coach of the Year in 1987.
