Matthew played basketball for the Wolves from 1986-88. He holds the single-season record and the No. 2 spot for blocked shots, recording 95 in 1987 and 92 in 1988 - averaging more than three blocks per game throughout his Western career. Matthew led the team in rebounding both years with the Wolves, totaling 339 boards and averaging 11.3 per game during the 1987-88 season - both school records. He led the Wolves to 39 wins in his two years as the consummate rim protector, completely changing the way the Wolves played defense.

After leaving Western, he played professionally in Brazil, Mexico and Australia as well as participating in the rookie game with the Portland Trailblazers. He currently serves as the Safety Manager for InterDent service corporation, a dental support organization that manages dental practices throughout the US.
